Updated: Corruption- The State of the Nation

Nigeria is now officially a laughing stock to the world. Her glory no more to be seen., like an alcohol has evaporated so fast into the thin air. Corruption enshrined in our very make-up. We celebrate it, condone it and nurture it with all diligence.

A lot of us were taken aback by the comments credited to the Latino US Senator, Ted Cruz who made a mockery of Nigerians in a bid to discredit the OBAMACARE health program. The contribution of Nigeria to America's economy especially our health professional has since being overshadowed by our corrupt antics; we are now christened Internet scammers.

Its not surprising to me if the International community make mockery of us. I can't imagine a government who reluctantly set-up a kangaroo probe committee to probe a visibly corrupt Minister who has technically admitted to a crime but finds it so easy in arresting Nigerians demanding for change. If it were to be in a sane society, the Pan-cake Minister should have resigned and subject herself to an open enquiry.

But what do we have?

She has got the effrontery to even travel to seal a deal on behalf of Nigeria when she has seamy questions to answer in a scrupulous deal which should seen her put in jail if we had a government. Well, just may be she's gone to the mountain top to pray to God in the mountains where Moses died, just in-case she may have a transfiguration. A goat would always remain a goat no matter the packaging.

Its very irresponsible of a government who just a few weeks back avowed in continuing the fight against corruption; to take steps inimical to that process. We are however not oblivious as to how he does fight corruption though. It is only in Nigeria,16 is a majority in the face of a 19 and 18 a two-third of 33. Its quite an irony that he fights corruption by starving the EFCC of funds required for its operations. Very soon a furlough would be declared in the EFCC. Hmmm! what a decisive way to fight corruption. What played out in the Avaition Ministry cut across all Ministries and Federal Parastatals. It is left to our imaginations the quantum sum being stolen by a few.Democracy in Nigeria has become very expensive to manage.

I sometimes wonder what solution there is for the disease which has so ravaged us as a Nation. Boko Haram in the North, MEND in the south destroying properties in their very domain and yet still claim to be fighting for a just cause. Everyone is simply fighting for a share of the cake. Its a free for all these days. Women protesting Naked for a known Kidnapper. We have lost our sense of morals.

Students are at home for more than Three months now. All a supposed Minister of education could say is that strike would be over in a matter of months. I don't think I saw that headings so well.Of course, in a matter of months, he doesn't have the time to sit down in Abuja to negotiate with the striking lecturers. He has a different portfolio entirely- His mandate is to set the stage for the electioneering campaign for Mr President in Rivers State. I want to encourage the students to go learn some trade or skill. You are in for a long break. Certainly not this year 2013. Minister Wike has said so. He is a close confidant of Mr President. His word must be taken seriously.

I salute the courage of true Nigerians who have taken it upon themselves to call a spade a spade no matter what. It gives me joy we still have young minds who are not political Halleluyah Boys but social critics engaging the society in quality discuss as to the way forward. Lets keep pushing. If we don't try we have failed. If we try we might Win.

I hope to see the dawn of a new era when the wide mouthed Latino would sing a different song about Nigeria. For now we can only wish. This is the state of the Nation. An insolvent state.

The Overlords should know Nigerians are gradually waking from their slumber. The social media is just one tool. We promise to engage this government and any corrupt government in a battle of wits. We shall win this war.

Have you signed up to be counted amongst the change agents? If  not do so today. Act right. Do right. Lets engage in further discussion. Your comments are very much welcomed. Each One Tell One.
