Rejoinder: #WandeDonjazzyGate- Uduak Oduok

I normally do not like getting involved in matters as these, but it seem this blogger need some publicity and so this my contribution for some more recognition not to popularize her creativity but her naivety.
Her opening remarks were so eye catching as I thought she was going to be neutral in setting out the records straight but no soon as I begin to read I saw her biase and profound love for the ololufe boy from Mushin.

She posited quite clearly that Don Jazzy is to blame as he is the creation of the problem.

"....Eyin Nigerian artists eti su mi, really (you Nigerian artists make me weary, really). Sheesh. Y’all can be off the hook, many times. You’ve got a grown man and so called boss for that matter such as Don Jazzy displaying foolish behavior of the highest order on twitter; and crying about a problem he created in the first place."

"....Are Wande Coal and Don Jazzy mates? What rubbish?! Why is Don Jazzy, the egbon (older one and adult) and most importantly the boss getting on twitter and stooping down to this kind of level as a business owner and leader in the industry? It is embarrassing and unacceptable. It also is ridiculous because from the facts, HE CREATED THE PROBLEM.

She was so emphatic about the claim that it makes me wonder if just maybe she is Don Jazzy's private Secretary who has exclusive access to Mavin files of signed record deals. I don't know what facts she speaks about. The artist in question has not come out to deny Don Jazzy's claim of intellectual theft. From the tweets which are still in the public domain, WANDE COAL rather had the view that just maybe Don Jazzy should settled this off the social media space.

I respect the opinion of people who feel that Don Jazzy as the boss shouldn't have used the social media to pour out his vituperation. However time has changed, the social media is now just like any other tool to get your pound of flesh if you so feel cheated.  We've seen notable leaders who have tolled that line before; Omojuwa did use it and got a fair deal from Arik Air just to mention a few. Don Jazzy's case is not exception. His twitter handle is his space and he has every right to say whatever he feels like on that space. It is none of your business. You can decide not to read or just ignore.

Am so annoyed with this writer because she fails to address the behaviour of our today's Nigerian Artist who do not understand or deliberately walkout from record deal they weren't forced to sign. After investing so much in them producing and promoting their works without contributing a dime they feel they have same right to share profits equally when they don't share the risk in the investment.

Listen very well the business in Music is far beyond talent. It is 10% talent and rest depends on the prowess of the Music label in promoting the artist. A lot of talent lay out there in the street with no hope or opportunity of exposure. She talks about the sanity in the Music scene abroad. Of course, why won't there be sanity? Recording Artist overseas understand the place of the court in walking out of record deals. Michael Jackson owed his record label two Albums before his death. He didnt walk away just because he is the King of pop let alone the King of Mushin. Don Jazzy is too generous. I think he should have approached the courts just like Audu Maikori did against Brymo. Nigerian Music Artist must read the terms and condition of their contracts with the help of private attorneys before putting pen to paper. When they do sign bogus contract they should also learn to keep to the dictates of such contracts instead of stealing from their record label, Just like I would also urge the Record Labels to also abide by the terms of the contracts signed with these Artist.

Did Wande pay for all the production Don Jazzy did for all his songs? Producing is a different ball game from the Business of the label. He is an ingrate. I just feel Don Jazzy is a little be lenient maybe because just when he had that split with his business partner these were the boys who stayed with him. Wande COAL should be grateful to the Boss. He showed total disrespect choosing to release a stolen property same day a fellow recording Artist Tiwa Savage was releasing a  video from the Hit single "Eminado" which featured his erstwhile boss prominently.

I can't recount the number of times she talks about the foolishness of Don Jazzy. I think she is the one who has failed to screen her foolishness with such a poorly written script. I doubt if she is an attorney as she claims as she has displayed a lack of professionalism expected of a learned lawyer in churning out her opinion.

One  thing I know the Nigerian Music Industry is evolving; in the nearest future the ethics in the industry will improve and everyone would come to understand the place of the artist as well as the business in the game. It can only get better.
