Beyond the letter writers- Dele Momodu

Fellow Nigerians, let me start by sending you my warmest compliments of this special season. It has been one hell of a year for our beloved country and most of us in general. The tempo of politics has nearly reached a crescendo as we meander our way towards the year 2014. Next year promises to be an interesting one already as those masquerades seeking political offices or simply waiting to renew their tenure must unmask eventually. There would be no hiding place for the goldfish by this time next year.

Oshiomhole’s Leadership Qualities In Nigeria: A Model For The Country - Dr. Wumi Akintide

As I gather my thoughts for my new year resolutions, it just crossed my mind to take a look back in time and to show how bad leadership has been a major drag on the progress of Nigeria for much of our 53 years of independence. I want to begin this piece with a self confession about what I need to do better in 2014. I get regular feedbacks from fans of this column around the world and I am grateful for them. While the great majority admit and thank me for sharing my thoughts with them, a respectable minority including one or two of my trusted friends and confidants have wondered aloud if I could make those articles shorter. It is a correct observation I plan to work on in the new year.

I am not a trained journalist. I do have some journalists I so much respect for their lucid language and brevity. Three of them include a gentleman named Sonala Olumhense who proudly won “the journalist of the year award from Sahara Reporters on December 21 at their well attended Christmas Party in New York. The other two are Okey Ndibe and Rudolf Okonkwo. They all can write and their articles are never as lengthy or wordy as mine. I have become their student for the most part, and part of my new year resolution is to emulate them more in 2014 and beyond. I crave your indulgence to let this be the longest article for this year. It is a promise I mean to keep. So help me God.

The power of letters By Gbenga Omotoso

It is easily our most exciting season. The weather may be a bit nasty- cold, dry and dusty, clogging our nostrils and impairing visibility. The travel chaos. The shopping spree and the upsurge in crime. Never mind them all. Consider the revelries. Rejoice.

Carols. Streets festooned with flowers. Blinking lights from giant Christmas trees. And those colourful greeting cards with moving words. The messages are sometimes lyrical, expressing deep emotions. Other times, they come in simple, everyday language, signed by the sender and tucked in bright envelopes that we are tempted to keep rather than trash. How I love reading those soothing messages. At the end of it all, I sometimes ask myself if the emotions expressed in those cards are actually reflective of the senders’ true feelings.

Nigeria belongs not to just some few politicians-GEJ

The President speaking at the Christmas day service at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Anglican Communion, Gwarimpa, Abuja, admonished politicians and statesmen that were heating up the polity saying that the country belongs to all Nigerians.

He stressed that the nation belonged to each and everyone Nigerian, “the common man, traditional rulers, religious leaders, our men, our women.”

He however cautioned the politicians against making inflammatory statements that could heat up the polity in the name of politics.

In his words, “For us at this time especially, we the politicians, we think we own this country and begin to think about next election and doing what we ought not to do, making statement we ought not to make, writing letters we suppose not to write.

“This country belongs to our statesmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, our men, our women, our youth. Nigeria does not belong to any politician or group of politicians.’’

The President's comments comes on the heels of his response to an open letter written by a former powerful head of state.

Multivitamins 'waste of money,' say Medical Experts- Catharine Paddock PhD

"Enough is enough: stop wasting money on vitamin and mineral supplements," say medical experts in an editorial of a leading journal that has just published three new studies examining whether routine use of vitamin and mineral supplements brings health benefits.

Writing in Annals of Internal Medicine, the editorial authors conclude that most supplements do not prevent chronic disease or death, some may even be harmful in well-nourished adults, and there is a large body of evidence to support this.

Open Letter To Pastor E.A. Adeboye And Pastor W.F. Kumuyi

Dear Venerable Pastors:

After a lot of inner turmoil concerning the situation in Nigeria, I decide to write you this open letter. Each time I visit Nigeria I experience a deep inner threat as to the direction of the country.

I have deliberately addressed this open letter to the two of you out of more than dozen Nigerian Pentecostal and Charismatic Preachers with Mega Churches both at home and overseas. Three of you including Pastor Tunde Bakare in my view, are the only influential men of God in our country that Nigerians hold in awe and high esteem.

Pastor Bakare is not included in this letter because he is already a proven combatant

Beyonce's Album Breaks Record Sales with 828,773 Sold Over the Weekend

.........."I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it,” she said. “I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”- Beyonce

She has shattered all records that need to be broken. Beyonce took a big risk in dropping her self-titled album on iTunes late last week without any pre-release promotion, and it's now abundantly clear that the bold move paid off.

ATIKU GETS FRONT SEAT AT MANDELA'S FUNERAL

Reports has it that former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar yesterday said he was humbled sitting on the front- row at both the state funeral and private burial ceremonies of former South Africa President, Nelson Mandela at his native home at Qunu, near Mthatha in the Eastern Cape Province.

Atiku was selected to be among the few lucky personalities to see Mr. Mandela’s final burial ceremonies in the land of his ancestors in accordance with the Xhosa culture by the South African leadership, with which he has maintained an excellent type of relationship since the days when he, as Vice President and the then Deputy President Zuma co-chaired the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-national Commission. That was a period marked by important trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Bode George no longer an Ex-convict

Call Him an Ex-convict, then be ready to be slammed with a court injunction for defamation of character and name.

The Supreme Court of Nigeria today quashed all charges of corruption earlier leveled against PDP Chieftain and close pal of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Bode George. The Supreme Court Judges headed by Justice Afolabi Fabiyi while passing their verdict said the charges of contract splitting brought against Mr Bode George by the EFCC was unknown to the law at the time he was convicted of the crime.

We await Ibori to be free once again too . Just maybe he may be acquitted of all charges brought before him.

The letter Bomb From OBJ

Culled from Sahara reporters

On 2nd December, this year, an apparently angry and frustrated ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan, a letter that clearly competes as one of the most acerbic in modern history, accusing him of ineptitude and of taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria.
“Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped,” Mr. Obasanjo said in the 18-page letter he titled “Before It Is Too Late” exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday.
He said Mr. Jonathan has failed to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people, stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.
He said that rather than take steps to advance Nigeria’s interest and up the standards of living of Nigerians, Mr. Jonathan had betrayed God and the Nigerian people that brought him to power, and has been pursuing selfish personal and political interests based on advice he receives from “self-centred aides”.

Rejoinder:War In CAN, As Pastor Oritsejafor Is Accused Of Ganging Up Against Bishops Who Visited Atiku, Aggrieved PDP Governors

Pastor Ayo (CAN President)
It is with utmost dismay I want to make this submission. I find it disgusting that Sahara reporters have placed themselves at a low serving as stooge or better-still a mouthpiece for a Northern Agenda.
Just this evening I found a report which was all embedded with lies. It would take a fool to believe such as the report is meshed with Matrix of lies.

Here are some excerpts of that report.....

"It was reliably gathered that the visit did not go down well with Pastor Oritsejafor, who is a political associate of President Jonathan and some notable PDP governors. He took action against the clerics and slammed them with suspension from CAN".

Fly or Die- (techcrunch By Jordan Crook)

The Nexus 5 is the latest generation of Google’s Android software, KitKat, come to life.

The hardware itself isn’t super glamorous, with a simple 5-inch display and a matte black backside, but the software more than makes up for what can be a bland appearance.

The 1080p display is quite nice, at 445 ppi, and the Snapdragon 800 processor under the hood keeps things snappy and smooth. But perhaps most important is the Nexus 5 camera, which has been upgraded in the software department to take truly beautiful photos. Plus, the Nexus 5 charges wirelessly.

Chris Velazco, our resident mobile geek, and John Biggs weigh in on the Nexus 5 in this episode of Fly or Die. But ultimately, the decision is yours. Is the Nexus 5 worth your time? Let us know in the comments.

Just yesterday, Africa and the world lost a gem. Madiba to me represented truth; one who was not moved by the tides nor the fashion of the moment.Today the world pretend to celebrate him whilst nor telling the full truth in the media what exactly where Mandela's philosophy.

I have always posited that for Africa to be trully emacipated from political and economic slavery we need someone who would rise against some power that be, most especially Western Imperialist who seek to use International Institutions to undermine Africa's growth.

The President Deserves Some Respect

President Goodluck Jonathan
It is with nostalgia I read irresponsible reports from Regional Bigots who pretend and hide under the auspices and shadow of citizen's reportage to peddle lies which lacks credence and has written over it its intended evil intentions of misinforming the public with fictional stories concorted in their bedroom.

The President like every other mortal man deserves some respect. Just like any other man can be prone to illness and sickness as he is not from above but a man amongst men. Constructive criticism should not be clouded with regional sentiments and desperation for power as power belongs to God.
