APC- the New set of thieves

Once met a friend who hates football passionately. He can't fathom why in a soccer match some bunch of 22 guys are all busy chasing after some ball. I knew he loved cricket; he is an Indian and so I had to taunt him by telling how much I distaste the game of cricket. Imagine leaving serious business to watch a crop of guys throwing balls at some guy with a stick and of course you know the details.  Is it not wonderful we all have some sports we cheer as fans?

Each of these sports have rules and it behoves on players to abide by these rules and act accordingly. Failure to do so attracts some painful sanctions. The game of politics is not quite different. It comes with intrigues as players become tactful. This makes the political arena a beauty to watch from afar.

Explosion in the APC- Tinubu, Sheriff In Near Fisticuff At APC NECMeeting

The recent meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, almost turned violent following the threat by a former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff to beat up a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.
Mr. Sheriff exploded midway into the meeting, raining abuses on Mr. Tinubu and threatening to slap the former Lagos State governor.
But for the intervention of the some party leaders attending the meeting, including a former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari and a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, the former Borno Governor, almost made real his threat, sources at the meeting told PREMIUM TIMES.

Gay couples marry for first time in England

Gay couples across England and Wales said "I do" Saturday as a law authorising same-sex marriage came into effect at midnight, the final stage in a long fight for equality.

Following the first marriages amid a supposed race to wed, Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: "Congratulations to all same-sex couples getting married today – I wish you every possible happiness for the future."

American, Dutch try to deposit billions in fake bonds in Vatican bank

Rome (AFP) - Vatican police on Saturday apprehended an American and a Dutch man who were trying to deposit billions of euros and US dollars in fake bonds in the Vatican bank.

The men were stopped by the police when they approached one of the guarded gates at the Vatican and asked to be let through to the Institute for Religious Works (IOR) as the bank is formally known, Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told AFP.

Last week I wrote an essay titled ''12 Years A Slave and The Case For Reparations''. It was a historical account about the travails of the African and the black man over the last few centuries and, frankly, it was very moving.

I shed tears as I wrote that essay- tears for our people and their pitiable plight and tears for the challenges and sheer cruelty that our forefathers experienced in the hands of those that regarded us as nothing more than sub-human barbarians and chattel. Yet one wonders who the real barbarians were: were they those who found it so easy to treat their fellow human beings as thrash and vermin, worthy only of hate and fit only for servitude, suffering, hard labour and bondage or was it those that were the objects and victims of that pent-up hate, that were regarded as nothing more than animals and that were denied even the most basic right of being regarded as and treated like human beings?

Three months ago, surgeons in Holland implanted a transparent plastic skull in a woman whose skull has never stopped growing. Incredibly, the rare bone disease that was wrecking her vision and destroying her life has been been bested by a simple 3D printer. The team of surgeons, led by Dr. Bon Verweij at the University Medical Center in Utrecht, expect her new skull to last indefinitely, opening up new vistas for cranial transformation.
