Once met a friend who hates football passionately. He can't fathom why in a soccer match some bunch of 22 guys are all busy chasing after some ball. I knew he loved cricket; he is an Indian and so I had to taunt him by telling how much I distaste the game of cricket. Imagine leaving serious business to watch a crop of guys throwing balls at some guy with a stick and of course you know the details. Is it not wonderful we all have some sports we cheer as fans?
Each of these sports have rules and it behoves on players to abide by these rules and act accordingly. Failure to do so attracts some painful sanctions. The game of politics is not quite different. It comes with intrigues as players become tactful. This makes the political arena a beauty to watch from afar.
Elections are around the corner and the political scene is getting charged up. Everyone seemed to be more alive. The level of awareness and political participation has increased. Everyone wants to get engaged in the discussions as with every new day comes some juicy story to talk about cutting across party divides. The blogsphere is one new avenue of communication as it is a veritable avenue to engage the youth.
As a member of this new wave and fashion in our political scenery I take it upon my self as a moderator to call out to some persons who may want to use this medium to intimidate some to submission especially those who dare to have different views on critical political issues. I believe so much in the right to views and opinions as we all differ. Let it be known that in our analysis of issues we all are somewhat biased as we are defined by regions, language and religion as a nation. However, I do also believe that we should gradually evolve from regional political bigotry and collectively address our problem as a nation on a better platform centered on political justice devoid of regional bias and party affiliation. Where this is not so I have vowed to take it upon myself to address issues even if I would be called names.
I see a conspiracy by some cohort to systematically bring down the GEJ government on the basis of hate and not as a result of bad governance. I must however allude to the fact that he has not performed credibly well as expected even if we are quite aware of the huge circumstances which he finds himself though tenable but to a large extent not accepted as leadership must take responsibility for failures.
They tend to lambast the president at any given opportunity but keep mute when issues arise involving their benefactors. I take particular interest in the news making rounds in papers about the soka house of horror in Ibadan. In tweets I exchanged with a friend I brought to the fore that the real issues are systematically ignored.
Thank God for credible journalist like Edmund IBilo of splash fm Ibadan who I must commend. That man is doing a credible job as a journalist. From the interviews he made live on air which he interviewd top personalities from government and residents of the area we can make some assertions and maybe draw some conclusions where it is convenient to do so as we await forensic investigation from the Police.
It was established that the Oyo State government engaged consultants who were charged with the responsibilities of taking destitute from the streets. This must have being done in good fate but clearly the government failed in its responsibilities to do a proper background check on the activities of these so called consultants. It was not quite clear who owns the building but we can say the property is owned by the government.
I would want to know why a learned governor would be so quick to order the demolition of a crime site? Is it not known to a layman that a crime site is to be condoned off and made secure until full investigation is carried out. Demolishing such a site must have corrupted credible exhibits needed to draw tenable conclusions in a forensic analysis.
In a civilised society, wouldn't it be proper for the governor to take responsibility and possibly resign his position as the Governor whose under his watch, tax payers money where used to pay such consultants who left Oyo State citizens to die in demeaning conditions?
No one would call for his resignation as he is not the Petroleum minister neither is he Mr Moro. I begin to wonder if it was a federal government property such atrocities must have occurred. The APC twitter voltrons would have since gone to work with various hashtags calling for the head of Mr President.
On Sunday some persons where busy hailing Aregbesola at Tinubu's colloquium. A governor who is alleged to be Islamising Osun state. I still don't understand what reclassification of schools is all about. I have not seen where an elected governor would demolish a citadel of learning for a shop rite complex. Yet everyone on the twitter space keep mute because he is an APC governor.
Someone reading this piece would want to christen me a PDP loyalist. I have no party affiliation. I am only drawing your attention to be assertive and open minded in addressing political issues. No party is Nigeria's problem. We are our problem and until we address ourselves as the problem we keeping going round the circle and keep recycling politicians; be it the old thieves ( the PDP) or the new set of thieves ( the APC).
