The Federal Government says it has yet to
accept a report from the Dubai Police over the alleged murder of a
19-year-old boy, Oloruntoba Falode, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Falode died after falling from a 17-storey building on February 15, 2014.
The victim’s mother, Aisha, however, said her son was murdered, alleging that he was pushed by his friends.
Aisha accused the Dubai Police of muddling up the case and releasing her son’s killers.
Reacting to the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had received the report but had not yet accepted it.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson for the ministry, Mr. Ogbole Ode, the ministry denied reports by a newspaper that the ministry had accepted the contents and information given by the Dubai Police.
He said the report misquoted Nigeria’s envoy to the UAE, Ibrahim Auwalu.
The
statement partly read, “In scouring through the story, there was
nowhere the Ambassador was quoted as having accepted the contents of the
police report and forensic investigations carried out on the remains of
the deceased.
“What is obvious in the
report’s interface with the diplomat is that he (the ambassador)
provided highlights and obviously, the conclusion of the host police
investigations into the alleged murder.”
