Mayweather stripped of WBO belt

Floyd Mayweather has been stripped of the WBO welterweight title he won by beating Manny Pacquiao two months ago.

Mayweather failed to meet the deadline last Friday for paying the $200 000 sanctioning fee required by the WBO.

The American took the belt from Pacquiao in Las Vegas on May 2 in the richest fight in history, earning a reported $220 million.

WBO rules require boxers to pay three percent of their purse to fight for a world title up to a maximum of $200 000.

Why are Nigerians terrified of same-sex marriage in America? by Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani

Late in 2014 when my friend, Zachary, invited me to his wedding taking place in The Berkshires this September, I was less concerned about having to travel all the way from Abuja to Massachusetts. Zachary is gay. "What if lightning comes and strikes the building?" I asked. He replied that there had so far been under 100, 000 gay marriages in the U.S. -- and no bolts. "Of course, my partner and I could be the last straw," he added.

That exchange may have been facetious, but many Nigerians are genuinely terrified of gay marriage. And they are distraught over the U.S. Supreme Court's recent decision to legalize gay marriage in America.

A Third Alternative to PDP and APC- Ben Murray Bruce

Months after the 2015 elections ended, Nigerian youths are still hung up on those elections. Nowhere is this more obvious than on social media which our youths have turned to a battle ground divided into pro People Democratic Party (PDP) and pro All Progressives Congress (APC) youths. So ingrained is this animosity that each group targets elected officials and party chieftains of the opposing parties and go after them just on the basis of their party affiliation.  Things reached a comical stage when a youth attacked me for a tweet on Twitter and hours later was praising a popular youth for his tweet. Unbeknownst to him was the fact that the youth had merely tweeted my exact words but had not credited me with the quote!
